Last weekend we held our first annual Woodtoberfest, an event celebrating all things wood. Despite pretty brisk temperatures, over 300 people came out Saturday to share in the fun. With a variety of demonstrations throughout the day, there was something for everyone.
While some enjoyed the opportunity to wander around and take in all of the beautiful woods in stock (and there are plenty!), others enjoyed the variety of demonstrations and exhibits available. Watching the steps in creating a bamboo fishing rod, from beginning to end, was amazing. Learning the basics of steam bending was incredibly enjoyable on such a crisp morning and was very interesting. The techniques of building and finishing an acoustic guitar were well received, with many enjoying an opportunity to understand more about this unique use of wood. Not to mention the variety of great demonstrations on turning with wood.
Over thirty craftsman participated in the tool swap, trading tools they never use for some new gizmo from someone else. There were also great conversations on the merits of all kinds of tools, from planes to drill presses. It was also great to see woodworking guilds represented, both in exhibits and overall attendance.
The kids dominated the winnings in the Casting for Cash contest with guest Louis Cahill from Gink+Gasoline. The majority of casts that resulted in cash were won by those under the age of 16!
Special thanks to all of the demonstrators, a great team who worked hard to make this happen and to all of our great customers who make it worth doing. We appreciate you thinking of Hardwoods Incorporated for your lumber needs. When you think of wood, think of us.
