Not Just the Leaves of a Maple Are Beautiful
As fall leaves hit their peak color, maple leaves get a lot of credit for being some of the more beautiful leaves. It’s not just maple leaves that are amazing, it’s the wood that makes stunning woodworking projects. Not only maple’s beauty make it an interesting wood, but the versatility as well. There are various types of maple but one of my favorites is hard maple.
??Hard maple (rock maple) is ideal for projects because of its straight grain pattern and light color. The sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge and the heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. Pre-boring is recommended when nailing and screwing. With care it machines well, turns well, glues satisfactorily, and can be stained to an outstanding finish. Polishes well and is suitable for enamel finishes and brown tones.
What can you make this fall with this beautiful wood?
