Residential Design, Lake Lanier, GA
This rustic woodland retreat is home for the family of Hal Mitchell, vice president of sales for Atlanta Hardwood Corporation. Mitchell, a self-described “wood fanatic,” selected much of the wood for the Lake Lanier home, including sapele and red grandis, which is used extensively. Jillian Mitchell, a commercial interior designer, was largely responsible for the home’s design and many of the innovative wood applications. More than 23,000 board-feet of plantation-grown red grandis is used throughout the home for interior and exterior doors, Bahama shutters, base and crown moldings, door jams and casings, and plinth blocks, as well as the most unusual application -- a bunk bed with a fire truck ladder for Mitchell’s son. Other woods used include cedar shake roofing, cypress siding and decking, and flat sawn sequence-matched paneled cabinetry. A screened-in porch features western red cedar walls and flooring made from thermally modified sweet gum. The thermal modification treatment process renders the wood structurally stable and fungus resistant, while also darkening the wood to a rich chocolate color. Gallery

Commercial Design, Hennessy Lexus
Hardwoods Incorporated supplied veneer for walls and casework at Hennessy Lexus, located in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The unique atmosphere for this high-end dealership was created by the Zenner Group, an architectural and interior design firm specializing in automotive, retail and corporate design (www.zennergroup.com). The interiors for this location included a number of curved and “waved” walls that were faced with blueprint-matched, quartered figured anigre, finished with a cherry stain. Architectural panels were laid up by Custom Plywood, Inc. Sequence-matched, flat cut, plain anigre was used for the casework throughout the dealership, which was fabricated by KMI, Inc. Gallery

Residential Design, Georgia Tech Solar Decathlon House
Wide plank maple flooring milled at White County Mouldings was included in the 2007 Solar Decathlon House designed and built by the Georgia Institute of Technology, College of Architecture design team. The project took sixth place in the international Solar Decathlon competition hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy. Twenty teams of college and university students compete each year to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house. The Architectural Group from Hardwoods Incorporated worked with the Georgia Tech design team to ensure that the flooring provided met the objectives of the competition. Commercial Design, 755 Club at Turner Field
Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia is home to the Atlanta Braves major league baseball franchise. Originally built to host events for the 1996 Olympic Games, the facility was recently renovated. The 755 Club is a private membership club and also a venue for special events. Dimensional Design created this unusual veneer application for a casual dining area in the club (www.dimensionaldesign.net). The Architectural Group of Hardwoods Incorporated sourced a non-backer cherry veneer that was vacuum-mounted onto relief-cut MDF to create the raised baseball pattern that was repeated across the wall. Commercial Design, Engineered Hardwood Flooring
This stylish, wide-plank iroko flooring is the perfect foundation for this sophisticated restaurant with contemporary flair. The unique structure of Hakwood engineered flooring resists expansion and contraction associated with daily indoor moisture and temperature changes. The hardwood top layer, which is two to three times the thickness of many popular engineered flooring products, is comparable to the lifetime wear of a solid hardwood product. This construction provides the durable properties of a solid board with all the advantages of engineered flooring. Hakwood specializes in the manufacture of wide-width, long-length flooring, and is available in 7" and 9-1/2" face widths. This wide-width engineered flooring is a stable, beautiful, versatile, and environmentally responsible choice for hardwood floors. Hakwood engineered flooring is available exclusively in the Southeast through Hardwoods Incorporated. Click here to view our flooring brochure on line. Gallery

Commercial Design, Veneer-Wrapped Mouldings
Five prefinished moulding and jamb profiles were used for construction of the Mauna Kea Resort in Hawaii. Prefinished wood-wrapped trim and mouldings were manufactured with a finger-jointed pine core and Khaya veneer. For lower installed costs, the mouldings were prefinished with a high quality stain and topcoat, providing consistent color and style throughout the extensive project. In total, eight shipments with roughly 70,000 lineal feet of Khaya-wrapped mouldings, jambs, casings and trim in five different profiles were delivered to the Big Island site. Hardwoods Incorporated is the exclusive distributor of Contact Industries veneer-wrapped moulding in the Southeast. Download a full case study for this project. Gallery
